Continue hiking to Inti Punku (Sun Gate) for panoramic afternoon views of Machu Picchu before descending to Aguas Calientes for hotel overnight. Day 2 features the official guided citadel tour.
2. DAY BY DAY ITINERARY
DAY 1
The Royal Route | Km 104 to Sun Gate
05:30 AM Private transfer to Ollantaytambo station and train to Km 104. Cross Urubamba river for a 3-hour hike to Wiñay Wayna ruins. Box lunch and 1-hour walk to Inti Punku (Sun Gate) for views of Machu Picchu. Shuttle bus descent to Aguas Calientes, dinner, and overnight stay. (Casa Andina, El Mapi, or similar).
DAY 2
The Citadel | Guided Tour & Return to Cusco
Morning shuttle bus ascent to Machu Picchu. 2-hour guided tour of the citadel. Buffet lunch at Tinkuy Restaurant. Return train to Ollantaytambo and private transfer back to Cusco.
